I got this song from some CD while I was still working in the music library. The CD was from some journal and did not have the song listed, and I have always liked the piece but never knew what it was. Today, I heard a small snipit of it played on NPR on real instruments and it has piqued my interest yet again. If anyone knows what this piece is, please drop me a line and lemme know. Oh, and as far as I can tell, the electronic instruments are being controlled by some type of MIDI wind controller. The CD I ripped it from said something about MIDI wind controllers, although no mention of names of tracks… grumble grumble.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) does not have a good reputation among many Americans these days. Both the RIAA and MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), in their quest to stamp out digital piracy, have taken extreme measures in order to protect their intellectual property, and, perhaps more so, their old distribution method for their movies and music. Many argue that their tough guy measures are both dangerous and ineffective in achieving their goals. And if news articles are any measure of the public opinion and polocies of both groups, then one wonders exactly who in these organizations believes that recording a movie in a movie theater with a camcorder deserves punishment of three years in prison. A search for RIAA and MPAA brought these results from Google news:

I bet not too many people have heard a section of marching piccolos warming up for a football game. And if you are one of those people, then today is your lucky day. This recording sports 10 piccolos tuning their fine instruments (bet you didn’t know you could tune a piccolo eh?), plus you can hear the drumline warming up as well in the background. The audio from the drumline is not direct sound as they were behind another building, so their sound is coming at the microphone after being reflected from another building. It all makes me realize how glad I am to not have to be in marching band anymore.

Moveable Type upgrade went smoothly, as did the site redesign. At least that is the case as far as I can tell. Although I still don’t know why I have a little space at the bottom in Firefox even after I thought I fixed the margin problem with the footer. But other than that, I think it looks decent. If you see any problems, please contact me and let me know.
I’m redoing the site in 2 ways: first, an MT upgrade to 3.1, then a design update. Hopefully both will be finished by the end of the weekend, so if you see weird hapennings on this site this weekend, just check back later.
