Even between different denominations of Chritians in the U.S, small differences are reason enough for some to stay away from some churches and embrace others. To the unaquainted, some traditions can appear a little odd to just plain, well, silly. I never liked chanting the creeds growing up in church, especially the Nicene Creed simply because it was way too long. If you’ve never heard the Nicene Creed chanted before, then boy are you in for a treat today.

I don’t know what it is, but cute little things often make us speak in high pitched, ‘oh aren’t you the cutest thing’ voices. Not that that’s a bad thing, necessarily. In fact, the way we talk to our pets is sometimes just as funny as our pets are. This is my girlfriend talking to our cat Nyantaro (whom we more often call meow meow, or just meow), but getting no response back from her. Why is it that pets seem to know when you are trying to get them to speak, either into a microphone or telephone, and then won’t speak at all despite having been very vocal only seconds earlier? I think they’re smarter than we think they are sometimes.

The dorm I lived in my freshman year of college was notorious for housing all the freshman riftraft and my hall on the third floor set that standard. Besides activities like room to room porn distribution (occasionally tacked up in the bathroom) and the infamous peanut butter shower bandit (don’t ask) it was usually chaotic and loud. That all the other people were very friendly and social didn’t help either. My roomate and I were both quiet computer geeks and mostly kept to ourselves, trying to either ignore or endure the chaos .

Eventually I decided that since the noise wasn’t going away, I might as well try to record some of it to enjoy for later. Unfortunately, I lost all the original .wavs so all I have left are poorly encoded .mp3s, but they still capture the moment well enough. This one is a recording of the general noise one could expect at any given time of the day or night, displaying the typical volume level of my oh so lovely neighbors.

When I had a problem with my water meter a few months back, I learned two things:

1. All the meters in my apartment complex communicate the water data to a main server in the office via a 900mhz connnection. How this doesn’t interfere with cordless phones I have no idea. Also, it does this with a AA battery, so if I ever wanted to stop recording my water usage I suppose all I would have to do is remove that.

and

2. The water service guys, while friendly and talkative people, seem to think I know more about their proffession than I do. Or at least that was the feeling I got listening to them talk about installing rack mount rectifiers for something or another. Well, interesting sound clip anyways.
